Problem: How to help the 
Microentrepreneur  to survive

*I completed this task within 4 days as a test for a job position. Some steps of the process have been condensed.*

 

How to help the MEI* to survive -

The Objective was to help de Micro Entrepreneur to save their business.

EMPATHIZE:  Search 

The first step was to understand the problems that made the small business fail in its first two years and know the entrepreneur itself better.

​

WHO

Based on a study released by the IBGE, the group is mostly composed of men (51%), with an average age of 42 years, with an income of R$ 4,400. The great objective of these entrepreneurs is to achieve Financial Independence.

Still, according to the IBGE, most small businesses go bankrupt in the first two years of life.

​

Among the main offenders are:

- Lack of planning when opening the business
- Not prepared for unforeseen events
- Not separating personal and business expenses
- Not having control of expenses and earnings
- Pricing the service or product incorrectly

- More than â…” of entrepreneurs do not have a cash balance forecast for the following month. Expense and earning records are often ugly on paper or not done at all.

Some important data from the survey:
According to SEBRAE, about 77% of entrepreneurs have never taken any type of course on business administration, which could explain the lack of organization and planning. Lack of knowledge about the benefits of business regularization also brings difficulties to users, since with the registered MEI, a series of benefits and incentives are offered to micro-entrepreneurs, in addition to access to credit.

​LEILA – 43 YEARS OLD
Hairdresser - Nova Iguaçu / RJ
Two children
Worked in the segment for 7 years
Shares the rent of the salon with another professional
Register only cash payments

Disorganized

Has difficulty separating personal expenses from those of the salon.

There are many loyal customers, but those that don't pay immediately and end up “leaving it to pay later” – which makes their financial control even more difficult.
Informalizing the process and “trusting” the customer.

PERSONA 02 -

​ARTHUR – 24 YEARS OLD
Designer – Maringá / PR
Without children
He works in an agency and recently became a Freelancer (from home) after hours and on weekends, to build up a booking.

Very methodical, records all work, and can organize expenses.
Invest in education, with online courses
There are monthly expenses for software and work tools.

You want to know how to price your services better to achieve your goals.
It gets clients through referrals and ends up having friction due to changes in the delivery of the project, which end up making its planning and control difficult. And is uncomfortable with collecting payments.
